Cowboys’ Williams Done for Season

The Dallas Cowboys have lost another player because of injuries, the latest being hard-hitting safety Roy Williams. Williams broke his right forearm in Sunday’s loss against the St. Louis Rams and will miss the remainder of the season.

The Cowboys, who have lost three of their last four games, may be in the midst of a great collapse. Widely regarded as the NFL’s most talented team, the Dallas’ greatest weakness may be its lack of depth. Injuries, then, have proven to be especially costly for them, whereas other teams in similar positions are more prepared and thus more able to find stop-gaps at key positions.

Tony Romo Out at Least One More Week

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who has been nursing an injured pinky, said on Terrell Owens’ radio show Tuesday that he will not be starting in Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers, barring some unforseen circumstances.

“I’ll say it will be Brad [Johnson],” Romo said. “Brad is going to go this week, unless something different happens that we don’t foresee. It will be very difficult to change.”

Romo did not play in Sunday’s upset loss against the St. Louis Rams, a game in which Johnson threw three interceptions and just one touchdown pass. The Cowboys lost 34-14 in what was a one-sided affair, the team’s second consecutive loss, and its third loss in four weeks. Dallas is now 4-3 and third in the NFC West, a very competitive division and one that figures to send two teams to the postseason.

Desperate Cowboys Trade for Lions Williams

It wasn’t long ago we were speculating that the Cowboys would attempt to trade for Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad “Now It’s Literally Ocho Cinco” Ocho Cino. The flaws in move were obvious: trade for Ocho Cinco and you risk alienating either him or Terrell Owens because both players were probably going to want the ball, and Romo can’t throw 50 passes every week. The deal fell through and, for the most part, everyone forgot about the rumors.

But a deal went down today that very nearly matches the “are you serious?” level of confusion the Ocho Cinco trade sparked. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones put together a deal that has sent “at least one” first round draft pick to the Lions in exchange for wide receiver Roy Williams.

Deal for Pacman Likely to Get Done Within Days

If the Cowboys get a deal done, we’ll hear about it within the next few days. “It’s probable, if we’re going to get something done, we’ll do it while we’re here at these meetings,” Jerry Jones said. “…We’ve got some more talks we’ve got to do with the Titans, and we will do that while we’re here.” The meetings referred to by Jones are the owners’ annual meetings, when the league’s owners, general managers, and coaches meet in Florida to discuss changes in the NFL, so Jerry Jones (who’s clearly making the call on this one) can meet with the Tennessee Titans officials face-to-face to discuss Pacman. It seems likely the Cowboys will acquire Jones. They’ve shown serious interest in the Titans defensive back and since the Titans aren’t asking for a lot — a fourth round pick this year and a sixth round pick next year — the upside of Jones almost certainly outweighs the costs to acquire him.
