Holcomb to start for Minnesota; Peterson to get more reps?

Kelly Holcomb

All reports indicate that Kelly Holcomb is set to start in place of still-injured Tarvaris Jackson this Sunday against the Eagles. The latter fractured his finger last weekend and is expected to miss a game. Assuming he does it will be Holcomb’s third start of the season.

“Every guy’s different with thresholds of pain, too,” Holcomb said, in reference to Jackson. “I know he did take some snaps and he did throw the ball. He looked pretty good with a fractured finger, but I can’t say what he’s feeling. I know that guys have played through that, and then I know that guys haven’t. I guess it depends on the person.”

Buccaneers work out Daunte Culpepper

Daunte Culpepper

With news headlines dominated by a certain recently indicted quarterback, it’s refreshing to see another in search of a team willing to give him a fresh start.

That quarterback of course is Daunte Culpepper, previously released by the Miami Dolphins, who has spent some time contacting interested teams and working out. The most recent of these is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, though they already have a pair of highly paid quarterbacks on their roster — Chris Simms and Jeff Garcia — making it doubtful he’ll end up there.

But, then again, with Jon Gruden (a.k.a. Chucky) still steering the ship, you never know what will happen.

Other teams rumored to be interested in the 30 year old quarterback include the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons.

Who will win the NFC North in 2007? It’s not who you think.

Green Bay is looking good in 2007

The NFC North has, for the past few years, been one of the league’s least competent divisions. Whether it was because Brett Favre threw 29 interceptions or because Matt Millen didn’t get fired (still can’t figure out how he actually got a contract extension), the NFC North simply couldn’t put everything together.

In a league where only the most dominant can survive, the North was mediocrity. Last year, however, the Chicago Bears managed to put everything together (well, almost; I’m looking at you, Rex Grossman) and found themselves in the Super Bowl. Sure, they lost, but it was at least reassuring to see one North team exceed expectations. Green Bay, after all, finished 2nd in the division with an 8-8 record, followed by the Vikings and Lions who combined for 9 wins.

The question now is, who will run away with the NFC North in 2007? At least, who will win it? It might not be who you think.

Quick Reference: Stingiest fantasy football defenses — Quarterbacks

Rex Grossman felt pressure from defenses last season

NFL defenses do not willfully give up yards. Ever. Fortunately, some defenses are worse than others, which is why teams can sometimes score at will.

As a fantasy owner, you should have a pretty good idea of which defenses are the weakest and which are the most overwhelming. The following is a list of all 32 defenses, in order of strength.
