Deal for Pacman Likely to Get Done Within Days

If the Cowboys get a deal done, we’ll hear about it within the next few days. “It’s probable, if we’re going to get something done, we’ll do it while we’re here at these meetings,” Jerry Jones said. “…We’ve got some more talks we’ve got to do with the Titans, and we will do that while we’re here.” The meetings referred to by Jones are the owners’ annual meetings, when the league’s owners, general managers, and coaches meet in Florida to discuss changes in the NFL, so Jerry Jones (who’s clearly making the call on this one) can meet with the Tennessee Titans officials face-to-face to discuss Pacman. It seems likely the Cowboys will acquire Jones. They’ve shown serious interest in the Titans defensive back and since the Titans aren’t asking for a lot — a fourth round pick this year and a sixth round pick next year — the upside of Jones almost certainly outweighs the costs to acquire him.

Pacman Trade Imminent?

Pacman Jones has made it clear that his days with the Tennessee Titans are over. At a charity basketball game this weekend, Pacman signed a ball with the number 21 — the number of former Dallas great Deion Sanders — instead of his own number, 32. But his agent is adamant in denying that any deal has been made, yet. “You would think the Titans would tell me they had traded him if they had,” agent Manny Arora said. Of course, a deal will likely be done soon to ensure Pacman does have the opportunity to wear number 21 next season.

Dallas’ Glenn expects to return this season

Terry Glenn

Here’s some great news: Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terry Glenn expects to return this season. That’s unbelievable news for the player that, at one point this year, didn’t know if he’d be able to play again, perhaps ever. Unfortunately, he hasn’t narrowed his return down yet, so no circling the calendar.

“His spirits are good,” coach Wade Phillips said. “He’s rehabbing his quad; they are building that up. Once you have a knee operation, you need the quad to go down, so they’re building that up.”

Glenn has made it clear he wants to take his time rehabbing. No need to rush things.

NFC Growing Stronger

We’ve all come to accept that, although the NFL has more parity than any other major orcollegiate sports venue, the AFC is more dominant than the NFC. They’ve won 6 the past 7 Super Bowls and the AFC typically has a winning record in the regular season, as well.

But 2007 and beyond may see a shift in the dominance. Take a look at the NFC’s top 3 teams right now, in terms of talent and production: Dallas, Green Bay, and even Carolina. The first has one of the NFL’s best offenses, Green Bay has one of the league’s best yound defenses, and Carolina has a healthy blend of each. Point being, all three are strong enough to contend for a Super Bowl and all three are composed of young rosters.

Top Matchups and Predictions, week 3

LT

The third week of NFL action kicks off tomorrow, and now might be a good time to quickly preview some of the most intriguing games to watch Sunday and Monday night. And don’t forget that you can check how 5 football minds expect the games to play out at NFL Experts Pick ‘em.

Arizona @ Baltimore — Both teams enter tomorrow’s matchup with a 1-1 record and an eye on their respective division crowns. Neither is a sure-thing to win Sunday, though the Vegas spread (Baltimore by 8 ) might make you believe Baltimore will coast to a victory.

Latest word on Glenn: may miss entire 2007 season

Terry Glenn

After a pair of conflicting reports showed up on the Dallas Cowboys’ official website, one declaring Terry Glenn may miss the entire 2007 season and another more hopeful that he will miss two weeks or so, it was a bit confusing to say the least. But ESPN’s Matt Mosley may have cleared things up today with his own report:

In the interest of clarity, Hashmarks has learned that the original version may have been more accurate. Late Thursday night, a member of the organization told me Glenn was indeed finished for the season, but that the Cowboys decided (a little too late) to hold off on making the announcement.

Romo — a one-hit wonder?

Tony Romo makes owners wonder about his future

I’ve noticed on NFL Total Access and other related programs that Tony Romo is being called into question. Some think that he may be a “one-hit wonder,” the type of player who explodes onto the scene one season and quickly fades out the next.

Is that the case?

I don’t think so. Personally, I believe that Romo will continue to mature as a quarterback.  A season with around 3300 yards and 20-22 touchdowns is what I am predicting at this point.

On a similar note, I don’t expect wide receiver Terrell Owens to pull any “T.O.” stunts next season, either. Romo showed last season that he trusts Owens as his number one target, and he will throw him the football.

T.O.: I got “nothing” out of my one year with Tuna

Terrell Owens got

Terrell Owens doesn’t seem to understand the concept of “respect.” The wide receiver dubbed “T.O.” by fans and media alike is drawing more attention to himself with his latest comments regarding former head coach Bill Parcells.

Bledsoe decides to call it quits after 14 seasons

According to Boston.com, Drew Bledsoe announced his retirement last night.

“I feel so fortunate, so honored, to have played this game that I love for so long, with so many great players, and in front of so many wonderful fans,” he told the Associated Press.

Bledsoe was a great quarterback, especially so during his time spent with the New England Patriots during the 1990s. Drafted by the Patriots in the first round, Bledsoe went on to lead the team to an AFC Championship victory in 1997. Characterized by a strong arm and tough mentality, Bledsoe earned the respect of his teammates and his fans.
