Tim Tebow makes it no secret he has a great work ethic when he comments on his efforts to change his throwing motion, and initial video evidence and commentary has been comforting, but sometimes it takes a respected third party to reintroduce reality to the situation.
Said Mike Holmgren shortly before the NFL combine kicked off, “That’s [throwing motion] the most difficult thing to change in any quarterback. . . . It’s hard to do, particularly in pressure situations.”
Holmgren is referring to players who revert back to their “comfort zone” in pressure situations, going back to old habits and (in the case of Tebow), looping the arm.
Holmgren’s statement gives some weight to a report by NFL Network’s Charles Davis who said Florida tried to change Tebow’s throwing motion. This directly contradicts Tebow’s quote last week, when he said the team never made it clear to him his throwing style was flawed.
In other Tebow news, the Gator ran a 4.70 40-yard dash and tied a combine record for quarterbacks with an incredible 38.5-inch vertical leap. This confirms what we’ve known all the long: Tebow is a terrific athlete. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tell us anything about his skills as a quarterback, as opposed to his potential as, say, a fullback or tight end.
