After reporting earlier that Mike Nolan may soon be fired, there now comes word from NFL Network’s Adam Schefter that Nolan has in fact been fired, and Mike Singletary will likely take over coaching duties. Singletary has been coaching as an assistant in the NFL since 2003, when he was an assistant (linebackers) under Brian Billick with the Baltimore Ravens. He moved on to San Francisco in 2005, where he remained the linebacker assistant.
Singletary interviewed in the 2007 offseason for head coaching jobs with the Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers, but he was ultimately passed over.

I think that Singletary is going to be great NFL coach. A mastermind behind one of the best defenses in the NFL. He has leadership I think it will warrant respect.
Singletary could prove to be a very good coach, but we’ll see what he does with what he has to work with in San Francisco. The 49ers have some talent on both sides of the football; if Singletary can get the defense rolling, the Niners could return to respectability.
