Laurence Maroney to IR

Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe has reported that the New England Patriots have moved running back Laurence Maroney on season-ending IR. Reiss cites an unnamed “NFL source” in making his claim.

Maroney, who played in three games this season, rushed for 93 yards and averaged just 3.3 yards per carry. Sammy Morris, who has handled the vast majority of carries this season, will probably continue his role while LaMont Jordan and Kevin Faulk will also likely see more touches.

Maroney is largely considered a disappoinment in the NFL. He has missed games in each of his three NFL seasons because of injuries. He has 1,673 career rushing yards and 26 career receptions.
