It wasn’t long ago we were speculating that the Cowboys would attempt to trade for Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad “Now It’s Literally Ocho Cinco” Ocho Cino. The flaws in move were obvious: trade for Ocho Cinco and you risk alienating either him or Terrell Owens because both players were probably going to want the ball, and Romo can’t throw 50 passes every week. The deal fell through and, for the most part, everyone forgot about the rumors.
But a deal went down today that very nearly matches the “are you serious?” level of confusion the Ocho Cinco trade sparked. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones put together a deal that has sent “at least one” first round draft pick to the Lions in exchange for wide receiver Roy Williams.
What?
Williams is an excellent wide receiver, but this deal reeks of desperation on the part of Dallas, which fell to 4-2 this weekend after an overtime loss to the Cardinals. The loss was the Cowboys second in the past three weeks, and perhaps Jerry Jones believes the offense needs a lift, even though it still ranks 3rd in the NFL in scoring and has yet to score fewer than 24 points in a game.
Wouldn’t want to add some talent to the defense, right Jerry? You do know what defense is, right?
Perhaps Jones believes that the offense can simply outscore opponents and pass the ball at will with a second “elite” wide receiver. Of course, Williams is prone to injuries and one wonders who he’s going to steal receptions from. It sure can’t be Terrell Owens because, as Owens says, “It’s no secret, when I get involved, we move the chains. When I don’t, we’re more stagnant in our offense.” What happens if Williams expects at least 4 catches per game? Three Cowboys are averaging that this season: Owens, Marion Barber, and Jason Witten, Romo’s favorite target.
The difficulty of getting two elite receivers - or, perhaps better stated, two receivers who know they’re elite - to co-exist on one team could wind up being a headache for Wade Phillips. Looks like Jones is going to pretty extreme measures in his quest for another ring; but there’s one thing he should understand: chemistry trumps talent.

I like this deal for both teams while i dnt like this deal for the other reason for each team
Dallas gets another potenitially great WR
Detroit gets a TON (1st, 3rd, 5th)
i dont like it for them because
dallas gave up a 1st, 3rd, and 5th for potentially a WR3, at best 2
detroit gives up their vocal leader and now orlovsky (or stanton eventually) has a main receiver of calvin johnson with not enough talent anywhere
its obvious Detroit has given up this year while dallas is in panic mode.
detroit might as well start giving tryouts to EVERYONE just to see if they can find talent and it wouldnt surprise me if they take ANOTHER wr with one of the 2 first round picks.
on a side note… Favre called romo up and told him to play through the injury. there is more to the story, hopefully we can get a full story up. the faster he returns, the better williams production will be
