Dolphins to Hire Parcells as Head of Football Operations
Despite initial reports stating Bill Parcells will be joining the Atlanta Falcons franchise to aid in finding a head coach, the latest from ESPN is that he will instead be on his way to Miami in a similar capacity. The deal with Atlanta fell through when Parcells noted that the Dolphins were interested in him.
“We gave it our best shot, and it didn’t work out. We will continue down the same overall path, proceeding with plans to hire a general manager and a head coach. We will identify and consider every strongly viable candidate for these positions, with the goal of hiring the best,” Atlanta’s Arthur Blank said, according to a statement.
Parcells will be in the search of a head coach, or, like the deal with Atlanta, he may name himself to coach the Miami Dolphins. Regardless, Vonnie Holiday is excited.
“Really?” Holliday said when told by The AP about Parcells’ apparent interest in the Dolphins. “You can’t control it. But somebody like the Big Tuna, regardless of who’s in the front office or who’s not, brings a lot of respect and a lot of credibility with him. He’s a Hall of Famer. If you’re a free agent out there, that might draw you in.”
It certainly may. And given the Dolphins troubles as of late, they need all they can to return to a state of competitiveness. Tuna gives the team an edge sorely needed, so it will be interesting how the deal develops and who winds up coaching the Dolphins when it’s all said and done.
