Bobby Petrino might be considered a sellout, exiting after a disastrous season with the Atlanta Falcons — a position he originally regarded as a “dream job” — and bolting for Arkansas. It doesn’t help matters that he left during the NFL season. But whether or not he’s a sellout, his leaving already impacts the NFL draft.

Originally it was assumed that the Falcons might take a chance on Brian Brohm with an early, first round pick since he was originally one of Petrino’s players. But with Petrino no longer in town, we’ll need to wait until the Falcons sign a permanent replacement at head coach. What the team does after that will depend on that coach’s philosophies.

Of course, Atlanta does need a quarterback. But whether or not they’ll draft one as high as 5th overall (where they sit now) is questionable. And whether that quarterback will be Brohm adds to the puzzle, as he fell off the map this season while Colt Brennan set the NCAA record for touchdown passes and Tim Tebow won the Heisman. Meanwhile Andre Woodson and Matt Ryan made fans forget about Brohm, who entered the season a favorite to end up a top pick in the 2008 draft.
