We’re not even through the 2007 season and we’re already beginning to discuss his plans for 2008. At least one AP reporter isn’t afraid to speculate about what’s going on in Favre’s head:
Favre at least hinted that the Packers’ successful season makes him more likely to return next year.
“If last season gave me hope, if I felt optimistic after our Chicago game last year at 8-8 and not making the playoffs, sure, I obviously have to feel a little bit better — especially individually,” Favre said.
Of course, Favre hasn’t been otherwise vocal about his future plans and there’s little doubt we’ll speculate for perhaps months this offseason before he makes a decision, especially with the recent success Green Bay is having.
More importantly, no one is going to criticize Favre if he does come back this time around. Last season members of the national media and fans alike made it clear Favre shouldn’t return because he’s “too old” or “the Packers aren’t good enough” to justify the decision.
How wrong were they?
Flash forward to now and it’s plainly obvious what Favre saw in this team. They lack experience at a lot of positions, but the most important ones have both experience and talent.
The team’s starting wide receiver? Donald Driver, flashing one of the most brilliant smiles anywhere, is Favre’s favorite target and a player he can trust in crunch time. At the tackle positions, Mark Tauscher and Chad Clifton have been protecting Favre for a combined 16 seasons — and doing a great job, perhaps being the most underrated pair of bookends in the NFL.
On defense, the Packers have one of the duos at corner: Al Harris and Charles Woodson. Again, loaded with 20 years worth of experience, the pair have been a crucial reason the defense as a whole has performed so well this season. Nick Barnett (5th season) is the core of the linebacking group while Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (8th season) and Aaron Kampman (6th season) are at the top of their game rushing the passer. The two have combined for 17.5 sacks this season.
The Packers are a team loaded with experience where it counts, one of the reasons it’s so deceptive to hear that they are the youngest team in the NFL. Favre plays the most important role on the team as the somewhat tamed gunslinger whose passion and incredible play this season has inspired the team to its 9-1 record. It’s why he’s a candidate for MVP.
Should he return for an 18th season? If his heart is in it, absolutely. But let’s finish this season first. The Packers are in the running for the number one spot in the NFC and clinching homefield advantage throughout the playoffs would be a remarkable feat considering the expectations the team had prior to the season (Sports Illustrated predicted 6-10).
Favre and Co. are on an amazing and unexpected ride this season. Let’s enjoy and appreciate its significance.

Dude, you change your theme so often it’s hard to keep up with it. Lol, sometimes I don’t know if I landed in the right spot. I think it looked awesome when you had the TMA theme. This one isn’t bad, it’s simple and plain.

Kremer doesn’t know what he’s talking about! what is that? how do i not know what I am talking about? I came to the site and didn’t know if I was in the right place because the last 4 times I came here it’s looked different. Do you even know what the TMA theme is? Probably not, so you should have said “I don’t know what Nick is talking about. It’s an opinion and my personal experience, buddy, let’s try to be civil and mature next time. If you disagree, say I disagree.
Change is good, no one is denying that. I just offered my opinion stating that I think it looked great when he had the TMA theme. I never said it looks bad did I? No I said it looks good, and it’s minimalistic. You just don’t want to change it so often that people get confused. It helps to have your product branded. That starts with Logo and layout…
