Javon Walker receives good news… and bad
The Denver Post is reporting that Javon Walker will not need microfracture surgery to repair the damages in his right knee. The Broncos’ star receiver has missed the past two weeks with the injury and recently underwent successful arthroscopic surgery Friday. Doctors reported that he will likely miss six weeks, though there is the possibility (not likely, however) things could take a turn for the worst which would result in his missing the entire season.
This all brings us to the question, should fantasy owners keep him or drop him? The earliest he’ll be back, according to reports, is week 13 against the Raiders. That’s just prior to most fantasy playoffs, a time when Walker may be needed.
Through the first 3 weeks of the season he caught 19 passes, for 230 yards. Those are great numbers, especially considering he caught 17 passes the first two weeks for 220 yards. Even in leagues that don’t award points per reception Walker was averaging 11 points per game those two weeks, despite never finding the endzone.
However, if you’re desperate for a player, Walker can understandably be dropped. And if he is (in a league you don’t own him), pick him up if you have the roster space. There’s no guarantee he’ll return, but if he does it will be at a pinnacle point in the season — both for your fantasy team and perhaps even Denver.
On a related note, Brandon Stokley will now be in the starting lineup indefinitely, opposite Brandon Marshall, while Tony Scheffler’s workload should also see an increase.
