In some unfortunate news, though not totally unexpected, Denver running back Travis Henry has reportedly tested positive for marijuana. To all Travis Henry owners and Denver fans out there: ouch.
The experiment in Denver has officially failed; it was one of the chief reasons the move was considered a little sketchy. Risks were involved, but Denver was willing to take them because, while the Broncos might be able to plug anyone into their backfield and walk away successful, Henry brought a lot of talent to the table. Plus, he fit the system perfectly.
No doubt the injury will also set back plenty of fantasy teams as Henry was originally projected as a starting fantasy back, perhaps drafted as high as the first round. And being in Denver he was poised for a good season. Already he had run for 433 yards on a 5.0 ypc average, but this drug test should see him suspended immediately. While he can appeal, I don’t see Goodell looking at Henry sympathetically. Already he embarrassed himself and the franchise with his child support problems and this definitely casts another dark shadow on his reputation.
Note to all fantasy owners out there: pick up Selvin Young. He’s Henry’s immediate backup and he’s looked great this season, carrying for a 9.2 (what?!) ypc average on 15 carries. He’ll see a lot of touches if Henry is in fact suspended. But he’s a safe pickup for now, especially if you already have someone on your roster you’re willing to dump.
