Update: Derek Anderson has been named the starter of Sunday’s game.
Though head coach Romeo Crennel is keeping mum on the Browns’ (0-1) quarterback situation, there’s a good chance rookie Brady Quinn will start Sunday. After some news of a trade that sent Charlie Frye to the Seahawks, Quinn immediately gets bumped up the roster to at least number two. Whether Crennel will choose to start Derek Anderson instead remains to be seen. Both Anderson and Frye were the two preseason contenders, but after some good showings from Quinn and a miserable performance from Anderson, it’s anyone’s guess what will happen.
“There are no personnel changes we will talk about,’’ the Browns’ head coach said in his Monday-after press conference.
That doesn’t rule out a move to send Quinn to the starting ranks, though the head coach may wish to hold back on thrusting a rookie into the lineup, especially after Cleveland surrendered 6 sacks against the Steelers. The team’s next game is at home against the Bengals (1-0).
No matter what, you can bet Quinn will enter the starting lineup in the near future. We’ll find out Wednesday what the plan is. That’s Crennel’s next scheduled meeting with the press.
“Whether I will make any (changes) or not, I will let you know the next time we meet,’’ said Crennel at Monday’s press conference.
