Driver’s chances of playing regular season opener: decent

Donald Driver Practice

While Donald Driver continues to nurse his ankle and deal with the inevitable effects of growing older, fantasy-heads are curious as to whether he’ll open the season with the starting offense. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess.

Mike McCarthy is optimistic, at least: “Donald is doing well. He went through the rehab part of it. He’ll be limited probably the remainder of the week, and we’ll make a decision on him at the end of the week.”

At this point, you’ll just need to wait it out until practices conclude at the end of the week. McCarthy doesn’t want to make a decision before that time because Driver still isn’t 100%.

Reports from Sunday’s practices note that Driver “looked a little gimpy, both on the field and in the locker room.” A sprained ankle is a painful injury, one that could keep Driver from taking the field at the team’s number one receiver. How he runs routes — he’ll need to hit them at full speed without showing signs of a sprain — will dictate how much he plays Sunday against Philadelphia. No doubt the Packers need him, and there’s a good chance your fantasy team does too.

This is good news for Packers fans and fantasy leaguers counting on Driver to be a top 10 type guy. Driver has really developed into a very good receiver, especially for a former 7th round pick. However I’m leery of him since he seems to have alternating good seasons and this could be a down year for him.
