After a short-lived holdout on Thursday, the St. Louis Rams and quarterback Marc Bulger have agreed to a new contract extension that will pay him just over $10 million per year for the next 6 seasons. Also, $27 million is guaranteed.
Smart move by the Rams to lock up Bulger. A two time Pro Bowl quarterback, Bulger has thrown for more than 3800 yards three of the past four seasons — he was injured in 2005 — and at least 20 touchdowns in those seasons.
Injuries are a slight concern, however, and last season was the first time in his career he started all 16 regular season games.
But with Bulger locked up for several seasons, the Rams can focus their attention to the defense; the offense is among the best in the NFL with he, Steven Jackson, Torry Holt, and Isaac Bruce, among others.

The deal isn’t a little over $10 million per year, it’s a six-year, $65 million contract. The exact details of the entire contract havn’t been released, but the deal is heavily backloaded.
This is what is known:
The deal included a $12 million signing bonus and contains $27 million in total guarantees.
2007: $3.95 million (+ $1.55 million roster bonus),
2008: $7 million,
2009: $6.5 million,
2010-2013: Under Contract.
Obviously backloaded. Rams’ fans should be happy for now, but in five or six years, I think he won’t be the same quarterback and he’s going to be earning a lot of money.
Thanks for the update.
