NFL Draft hosted in New Orleans?

Radio City Music Hall

Though Radio City Music Hall has traditionally been the home of the NFL’s annual draft since 1965, New Orleans would like to shake things up a bit.

The proposal? Hosting the draft in different locales each year, similar to the way the Super Bowl is hosted in different stadiums each season.

But New Orleans would like to go above and beyond. The two day media spectacular isn’t enough; instead, the city would like to turn it into a week long bonanza, similar to Mardi Gras.

“With the experience we have in hosting big events, there’s no question we could host the NFL draft, add some New Orleans touches to it, and make it even bigger and better,” Cicero said.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Friday the league is “committed to Radio City for next year’s draft. Then we will review our options, including the possibility of taking the draft to other locations.”

It’s an interesting idea, for sure. Not only would it draw both media and tourism attraction to the city, but it would be fan friendly. Hey, I’d take part in a parade for the NFL Draft! And it’d be great for fans like me who live in the Midwest if the league would take the Draft to each NFL city. Unlike the Super Bowl which requires pristine weather conditions so as to not favor any teams, the NFL Draft (held late April) does not conceivably require any specific weather conditions, so it could be held in each NFL city, especially those which cannot host a Super Bowl.

What do you think? Should the Draft move to different NFL cities each year?

  1. I would love to see the draft come to Philly. The scene would be insane.

  2. Tom

That would be sweet. There are a lot of cities that could turn the draft into an even bigger event than it already is.
