When EA Sports’ Madden franchise bought the exclusive rights to produce NFL games, rival 2k sports was shown the door. And with virtually no competition over the past few seasons the developers of Madden have grown lazy, producing games that lack the same explosive fun as previous titles.
But 2k sports is ready to enter the fray once again. And if they can’t produce a game with current stars like Peyton Manning, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Chad Johnson, why not make a title that features John Elway, Barry Sanders, and Jerry Rice, among another 240 or so legends of the past?
The game, which launches July 16, is looking to give EA Sports the competition it starves. Not to mention that All-Pro Football (hardly a catchy title, but hey, it makes it’s point) looks like it will be a good game in its own right. Imagine dropping back to pass with Joe Montana and scrambling past a blitzing Dick Butkus before firing a bullet to Mike Ditka who gets creamed by Ronnie Lott. Hey, it’s all possible in All-Pro Football 2k8.
And because it launches a month before Madden, All-Pro will be reaping its profits from football-starved gamers who are looking for quick fix. It will retail for about $60, the same price tag as most launch games.

Your turn: what player, throughout the history of the NFL, would you build your team around if you were starting a franchise?
