The NFLPA has asked Roger Goodell in a letter to take a second look at the season-long suspension he dished out to Pacman Jones earlier this offseason in hopes he will take a little time off the sentence.
“…your suspension of Jones without pay for the 2007 season is clearly excessive and much greater than discipline imposed upon players for the same or similar incidents.”
Hey, somebody tell the NFLPA that Goodell’s judgment was made after a new policy was created. Goodell took all the necessary steps, creating a body of players as an advisory council in drafting the policy.
Precedent must begin somewhere and this one is based on a new policy that hopes to severely diminish the number of off-field misconducts that have been giving the NFL a bad reputation. Maybe Jones is being used as an example to all players, but the suspension is not unwarranted.
The latest in a series of alleged “incidents” left one man in Vegas shooting paralyzed.
The punishment Pacman received may be harsh and it may set new precedent, but it was not unjust.
