With everyone discussing the Trent Green trade, or at least Green moving to Miami, we all forget about the Dolphins’ current starting quarterback. And Daunte Culpepper isn’t happy about that.
“As long as I’m healthy, I’ll be fine,” said Culpepper. “I feel I’m going to be a great player in this league. . . . Nothing has changed in my mind until somebody tells me different. I’m the quarterback of this team.”
Somebody needs to tell Culpepper different because Trent Green is going to be the team’s quarterback in 2007, assuming he signs. Right now negotiations are at a standstill, but Green will most likely be released if the Chiefs don’t trade him soon. He has already stated that he will not renegotiate his contract for anyone other than Miami.
It’s also likely the team will either release Culpepper or trade him when a deal for Green is finalized. The team will spend 2007 grooming rookie John Beck while Green starts behind center. With those two on the roster, there is hardly room for Culpepper and his salary. Though he is a strong-armed quarterback, Culpepper himself admits he isn’t at 100% yet following a surgery several months ago.
