Time is running out for Keyshawn; visiting Tennessee today

Keyshawn Johnson's career may be reaching a close

Keyshawn thinks he still has game, but NFL teams aren’t so sure. Though he’s drawn plenty of interest — most recently Tennessee — and even some offers from New England, Tennessee, Oakland, and Denver, all four are talking veteran league minimum. Johnson thinks he’s worth more.

His argument? The peers from his draft class — Terry Glenn, Marvin Harrison, Eddie Kennison, Terrell Owens, and Joe Horn — are earning big bucks. Understand, Keyshawn, that Owens and Harrison are Pro Bowl locks.

I’m completely on Johnson’s side when it comes to Kennison, however. The only reason he’s earning big money is because Kansas City has no other competent options at wide receiver. At his best Kennison is a number two receiver, but he’s playing number one in that offense. By default number one receivers earn more than number three receivers, a position Johnson would play if signed.

Adam Schefter’s report:

If no team comes through in the coming days, it sounds like Johnson is through.

Fortunately for Keyshawn, at least one team is going to take a long, hard look at him. The Tennessee Titans are planning to meet with the 3-time Pro Bowl wide receiver today.

“He’s a possibility here,” General Manager Mike Reinfeldt said. “You look at the consistency of his career, year-in, year-out he’s been a productive guy. He’s a big guy, a big target, a possession guy, a veteran. I think those are things that would interest us.”

Those qualities would probably interest Tennessee’s Vince Young, as well. Last season’s rookie of the year, Young will struggle to lead the team again without adequate receivers. Johnson could give the team that dynamic in the right situation while providing some veteran leadership.
