It’s time for the Chiefs to let go. But even if the team does remain stubborn in its trade with Miami — despite having no leverage, I might add — Green is trying thwart their efforts. The sly quarterback is planning on attending voluntary minicamps to risk his health. Such a risk of injury, no matter how unlikely, could hurry the trade process because Kansas City will not be able to trade Green if he is hurt.
This deal has been in works for more than two months now, with both sides making some progress. But that progress was quickly stonewalled when Kansas City got the idea that a 36 (37 this September) year old quarterback who missed most of last season with an injury is worth the same as a young hopeful Wes Welker, who the Dolphins traded to New England for second and seventh round draft picks. Obviously, that’s not the case.
Leading up to the draft, it was expected a deal would get done. But Kansas City wouldn’t come down on their asking price of a second round draft choice.
If a deal isn’t reached soon, the Chiefs will most likely be forced to release Green and his $7.2 million contract because the roster already has two quarterbacks, including Brodie Croyle, the Chiefs hopeful youngster.
