Devin Hester will be playing offense in 2007 and probably scoring touchdowns

Chicago’s Devin Hester is fast — just ask any Madden gamer — and the Bears are hoping to translate his speed and excitement to their otherwise bland offense.

“There are only a few guys in the league who can make people miss and do the things [Hester] can do with the football,” coach Lovie Smith said.

That’s true. There are a few players out there who can do what Hester can (Reggie Bush, for example), but they are small in numbers. And anytime a speed demon can make the move from special teams to offense, things are good. Unless, of course, he ends up like Dante Hall, a fast return man who isn’t worth a darn as a wide receiver.

But you can expect the Bears to take full advantage of Hester’s speed, most likely lining him up in the slot, though you can bet offensive coordinators will have some tricks up their sleeves. Hester will also force pressure on opposing safeties because of his speed. And if nothing else, at least the Bears will have a player on offense who will keep fans from yawning during possessions.
