Mark it down; Fox Sports is 0-2 on its latest two stories.
First it reported that Brett Favre requested a trade, but that was denied by Favre himself. Then a radio personality reported that Ray Buchanan was his inside source who said that Vick was not only involved in illegal dog fighting, but he was the leader.
“I don’t know anything about Mike being involved in dog fighting and that’s for real, coming from the Mouth of the South,” Buchanan told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution by phone Monday morning. “For me to say something like that is wrong because I’d never throw another player under the bus. I don’t know and I didn’t say anything about Mike Vick, who I know, who I live by, having anything to do with dog fighting.
“All I know is what everybody else knows and that’s the stuff I see on the news or read about.”
It is possible that he really didn’t say that, but it’s also likely that Buchanan is saying this to protect his name and integrity (don’t want to be known as the guy who “told” on Vick). After all, why would the personality refer to Buchanan if he wasn’t really a source? Why Buchanan?
Whatever the case, Vick can brace himself for the worst; these surfacing reports are digging deeper and deeper to the truth. Even if he avoids prison time like he might avoid a defensive lineman, you can bet that Roger Goodell will sack still sack him with a stiff suspension.
