Michael Vick’s luck seems to have run out. The quarterback was recently accused of being involved in illegal dog fighting. And on his Fox Sports Radio show, host Chris Landry reported that his source, former teammate Ray Buchanan, said that Vick was behind it.
“He tells me that Michael has been into this dog fighting for so long that … he not only knew about, he is behind all of it, he’s paying for all of it. … Apparently, he’s into it big time,” Landry said.
The Atlanta Falcons have not commented too much regarding the situation, though owner Arthur Blank said he had a stern talk with Vick and coach Bobby Petrino said he was behind Vick. Both will walk away with disappointment if Vick is sentenced to any prison time or found guilty. Even if he isn’t, however, chances are thin that he will walk away unscathed.
Commissioner Roger Goodell has made it a point since implementing the league’s new disciplinary policy to severely punish players who have had multiple offenses. Vick had a previous run-in earlier this offseason with airport security in Miami. The officers reported that Vick’s water bottle had a secret compartment that smelled like marijuana. No charges were filed, though Goodell will look long and hard at that situation too.
Point being, the Atlanta Falcons are growing more and more tired of the distraction Vick is bringing to the franchise. Not to mention the organization is probably regretting the Matt Schaub trade. No doubt his services would have been welcome if Vick is absent for the first part of the season. Instead, Vick will be replaced with veteran Joey Harrington if the situation does present itself.
