In a development on the classic Jets-Patriots rivalry quarterback Chad Pennington told YES Network that he was trying to convince GM Mike Tannenbaum to actively pursue wide receiver Randy Moss.
“(The front office) asked about him a little bit,” Pennington said last night after appearing on the YES Network’s “CenterStage” in Manhattan. “I’ve always been a fan of Randy. I always felt like, in the right situation, he’s going to excel and help your team win. He’s just a phenomenal player. Professionally, he’s made great strides off the field, too.”
Moss has obvious talent and there is little doubt he would help in New York. But with Jerricho Cotchery developing and Laveranues Coles being the star of the offense, it’s easy to understand why the front office didn’t make a push to get a deal done.
Not acquiring Moss wasn’t the worst thing that could happen. Unfortunately, the worst thing that could happen has happened: Moss suiting up in a Patriots jersey.
“I was like, ‘We’d better find out some ways to stop him,’” said Pennington, describing his initial reaction to hearing that Moss was joining New England. “Knowing Randy, he’s going to be ready to play.”
