Moss a Patriot; Raiders acquire Williams and McCown
After speculation, the Oakland Raiders have finally dealt wide receiver Randy Moss but not to Green Bay. Instead, the Raiders agreed to a deal that sent Moss to New England in exchange for a fourth round draft choice. His lack of effort and motivation has set the price on his head equivalent to that of players like John Bowie, Oakland’s fourth round selection from New England.
The Patriots organization like the deal, but will New England fans accept the deal? Most likely, yes. Pats fans know that coach Bill Belichick is in complete control; in other words, this isn’t the same situation as Terrell Owens going to Dallas. The Cowboys have a control freak for an owner — Jerry Jones — but Robert Kraft is only a supporter of his coach. While Parcells’ hands were tied because of his “players-first” owner, Belichick has the power to say, Send Moss home, he’s a distraction.
And if everything goes to plan Tom Brady will be the happiest quarterback in the world. He has never had a receiver of Moss’s caliber, and this acquisition gives the Patriots offense potential to be one of the league’s best.
Moss will not be replaced in Oakland by newly acquired wide receiver Mike Williams, but the “bust” receiver does add some depth to the position. The Raiders also made a deal for quarterback Josh McCown, adding their second quarterback during Draft Weekend.
