With the first overall selection of the 2007 NFL Draft, the Raiders have selected quarterback JaMarcus Russell out of LSU. Russell is a good quarterback who fits the Al Davis mold for wide receivers. He has perhaps the strongest arm in the NFL, but it will take time for him to acclimate himself with the pro game. Nevertheless, Oakland got their guy and fulfilled their greatest need at quarterback with someone who will be able to shoulder the load with leadership and a massive frame that will be able to withstand the beatings delivered by defenses — Oakland allowed more sacks than any other NFL team last season.
