Ricky Williams is eligible, as of today, for reinstatement into the league. Commissioner Goodell holds the keys, but it is expected he will allow the running back to return.
Goodell recently implemented a new “character plan” that punishes players who have off-field issues and problems abiding by the law. Williams had failed three marijuana tests the season he originally left the team, in 2003. No doubt Goodell will give him another chance in the league, but don’t expect the commissioner to look the other way if Williams fails another.
Miami, on the other hand, has not yet admitted whether or not they want Williams if he returns. But Williams agent, Leigh Steinberg, said that the former Pro Bowler “will return to Miami for off-season conditioning whenever the team desires.”
It is more than likely the team will welcome Williams as a backup to running back Ronnie Brown.
