The Washington Post reports that trade talks between the Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears regarding Lance Briggs are alive, once again. According to the article, at least once source close to the situation thought there is a “50-50″ chance a deal gets done before Washington is on the clock tomorrow (6th overall).
Recall that Washington already offered Chicago a deal for Briggs — swap first round picks and send Briggs or the ‘Skins — but the Bears turned it down. Evidently, if the Redskins want to make this deal happen it will take more than swapping first rounders. But the problem is lack of compensatory picks Washington can offer. They do not have any picks to offer before their fifth round choice.
Fortunately for fans, owner Dan Snyder would like nothing more than to get a blockbuster trade completed. He loves to make a splash, and pulling off something like this would definitely send ripples. If the Bears don’t receive a better offer before Washington is on the clock, don’t be surprised if they cave and accept the offer. Lovie Smith doesn’t want a distraction this season, and Briggs sitting out for the majority of the seaosn would not be a positive influence on the team’s morale.
