The Detroit Lions, rumored to select Georgia Tech standout wide receiver Calvin Johnson with the second overall pick, have signed two veteran wide receivers. The first you have probably heard of, Marcus Robinson; the second, Cliff Russell.
Robinson, a ten year veteran, has spent the past three seasons in Minnesota where he caught an average of 36 passes per season and about 5.67 touchdowns per year. Russell, on the other hand, has only 5 career receptions — 4 year veteran, played in Miami past two seasons — and has not started a game, yet.
Both players figure to make a certain degree of impact, though Robinson is clearly the front-runner to do so. With only Roy Williams as the Lion’s elite receiver — though Mike Furrey played well last season — both players should play a role in the offense, though don’t expect Russell’s to be any more than a minor one.
