Five teams interested in acquiring Briggs

Chicago may not have to deal with its disgruntled linebacker much longer. It is rumored that five teams are interested in a trade for Lance Briggs.

Briggs, who threatened to sit out most of the season if he wasn’t traded, is a client of the notorious Drew Rosenhaus, one of the most influential agents in sports today. The Bears would love to keep Briggs, but a deal simply isn’t going to be reached. A draft day trade, on the other hand, is a distinct possibility.

Adam Schefter reported that Briggs was mentioned in Internet trade rumors involving the Buccaneers; Tampa Bay is the fifth team in the mix, joining the Giants, Broncos, Bills and Redskins. And while the Bears are mum on when, if, or where they will trade him, expect them to get a deal done on draft day. The Bears currently sit at 30th and 37th overall, so moving up is definitely an option.

One player the Bears are reportedly interested in Penn State outside linebacker Paul Posluszny. Posluszny is considered one of the best linebackers ever to come out of “Linebacker U,” which is saying something. The most obvious value in the case of Chicago acquiring him is that he could work to replace Briggs at the weak-side position.
