Mlive.com reports that GM Matt Millen and the Detroit Lions are willing to trade the number two overall draft choice. The Lions are rumored to be interested in both Clemson defensive end Gaines Adams and Wisconsin offensive tackle Joe Thomas. It is unlikely that either player will slip past the top five overall picks, though Adams, who recently admitted to the use of marijuana, could fall.

Detroit is reportedly interested in acquiring more draft choices in later rounds through a trade. The Lions already have a first, second, third, fourth, and 4 fifth round draft choices, as well as a 7th. The team’s move to acquire more picks is a bit puzzling for that reason alone’; however, because teams will be trading for the second overall draft choice, expect offers that will trade first rounders and throw in second or third round draft choices as well.

Either way, teams are interested. The Washington Redskins, for example, are known for making offseason splashes (before regular season crashes), and with Daniel Snyder running the show, there’s little reason to suspect the ‘Skins won’t be doing some draft day moves. And the Redskins are very interested in Georgia Tech’s Calvin Johnson — most teams who offer a trade to Detroit will be interested in grabbing Johnson — so a deal makes sense. Unfortunately, the Redskins only have a first round choice (6th overall), a fifth, 2 sixth, and a seventh overall draft choice; hardly enough to compensate Detroit.
