Sauerbrun returning to Denver
It’s official; on Friday, the Broncos came to terms with a deal that will allow punter Todd Sauerbrun to return to Denver for at least one more season.Sauerbrun was cut by Denver last year after being and signed by the Patriots. He punted a total of 10 times for New England, averaging 30.7 net.
But a grievance was heard Tuesday as to whether or not the Patriots had handled his contract correctly and informed him that they did not have rights to first refusal. Sauerbrun had expressed interest in returning to Denver for the 2007 season, and he later won the grievance.
“He is free,†said attorney Jeff Kessler on Wednesday, the outside counsel for the NFL Players’ Association who argued the case.
And now he got his wish: he’ll be wearing the Denver uniform in 2007, and perhaps beyond.
