Rams interested in Williams?

The Miami Herald reports that St. Louis coach Stott Linehan is interested in Ricky Williams. The Dolphins might not be interested in Williams, who is awaiting reinstatement.

”I would have to look into it a little bit more,” Linehan said during a pre-draft news conference with St. Louis reporters. “But based on how he played and the kind of person he was to be around, I would certainly consider it, and I’d fight for him.”

Williams is definitely a suitable backup, and other teams could also begin showing interest in his services. But, at this point, Miami, St. Louis, and Kansas City are the only three teams who need the services of a backup. None of those teams have have a solid replacement if the starter goes down, and the starters on those teams will need relief during games. Especially Kansas City, who is rumored to be considering the use of an early draft choice on a running back. Larry Johnson set an NFL record for carries last season, and if the Chiefs want his services in the future, they would be wise to sign a “spotter,” someone to handle 3-5 carries per game.

But the Rams are the first team to express genuine interest in Williams. Keep an eye on this story.
