The Denver Post reports that Denver will be monitoring Carolina defensive tackle Kris Jenkins. No real surprise here. The Broncos have been looking to improve the defensive line, specifically the tackle position. And the other option the team has been considering is using the draft to fulfill a need early on.
But with the availability of Jenkins — the Panther have expressed that he is very available — the Broncos could opt instead to trade one of their two third round draft choices for the Pro Bowler. His only real concern has been his weight, which tends to fluctuate — he’s about a biscuit away from 400.
However, one can’t argue that he’s a great run-stuffer, and the Broncos would be better for having him, especially with tackle Michael Myers’ departure for Cincinnati. The team’s run defense will face heavy attacks at least four games this season when playing the Chiefs’ Larry Johnson and Chargers’ LaDainian Tomlinson. It would be wise to improve the corps that allowed those two backs alone to average 123 yards rushing and a score in four games last season (record: 3-1).
