Tennessee still hoping to make Turner a Titan

The Tennessean reports that Tennessee is still very interested in acquiring San Diego’s Michael Turner in a trade.

“Nothing is imminent at this point and time, but nothing is dead either,” General Manager Mike Reinfeldt said. “The fact that we both agreed to stay in touch leans toward optimism.”

San Diego has set the price on Turner at a first and third round pick, a price the Titans hope to drop before they make a deal.

As reported previously, another running back the team may consider is Corey Dillon. But Dillon may not be suited to handle the full load, possibly resulting in splitting carries between two backs. Unfortunately, the Titans’ number two runner is LenDale White who appears to have little work ethic, and his running style is similar to Dillon: both run over defenders, rather than around.

But if the Titans can land Michael Turner, it would give them the option of a “thunder and lightning” approach, Turner being “lightning” and White bringing the “thunder.” This “committee” approach would make the best use of both players, neither of which has been a starter yet in his career; and because of that, they may tire easily because of the lack of game-time running. Taking advantage of both players’ strengths would definitely work in favor of Tennessee.
