Simms is the starter in Tampa Bay… for now

TBO.com reports that Tampa Bay quarterback Chris Simms has been getting the majority of first team reps this offseason, giving the impression that he is the team’s starter at this point. But because “this point” is April 13, still a couple weeks before the draft, new-comer Jeff Garcia still has plenty of time to take the starting job away from Simms as many expect he will.

After all, I’m assuming the overriding reason that Garcia is not taking first team snaps yet is because of his lack of experience with the offense. After he gets in his reps with the second team, becomes comfortable in the offense, and understands Coach Gruden’s philosophies, he’ll be shuffled over to first team to begin working out with them. There is little chance Gruden will go the entire offseason without giving Garcia plenty of time to work with the others starters.
