SportsYA reports that Oakland has come to terms with ex-Denver guard Cooper Carlisle. The deal will reportedly keep the offensive lineman in Oakland for the next two years.
The reasoning behind the signing is obvious –the Raiders offensive line last season managed to let enough defenders slip through the cracks of the line and sack the quarterback a league leading 72 times. 72 times over the course of one season — about 4.5 times per game — was definitely enough to keep Oakland from seeing any successes. After all, the offense was what held the team back last season.
Carlisle will definitely improve the line and plug up one of the holes (there are many holes, much like a block of Swiss cheese). Because Carlisle was in Denver, he is accustomed to zone blocking; how the transition will affect him remains to be seen. But his skills as a protector definitely justify his signing. And it makes a dent in the seemingly futile process of improving one of the worst offenses ever.

Yea this makes me just that much more disgusted by Robert Gallery. Its almost a shame that such a great Iowa product like Gallery could lead to such a shitty unit like the Raider’s O-line.
I agree. Gallery was such a highly touted draft prospect, but he has been a bust during his NFL tenure. The entire Oakland line is atrocious and I’m just happy to see the Raiders making moves like this so that they can at least compete next season; 3 wins is no longer out of reach, at least!
Thanks for the comment, man.
