St. Louis, Kansas City and Denver appear to be the leading candidates to land Jenkins. According to multiple league sources, the Panthers are looking for draft pick compensation, though they were apparently underwhelmed by the first round of talks. While they’re said to be averse to giving him away, they’re hoping for more than the third-round (or later) picks which have been discussed so far.
The Panthers have not been shy when it comes to talk of trading Jenkins. He will be shopped around until the team finds an offer it likes — probably a early-mid round draft choice.
On those terms, the Broncos can definitely get a deal done. Denver has two 3rd round draft choices and could definitely spare one, especially considering the team is expected to otherwise draft a tackle fairly high.
St. Louis also needs Jenkins, though. Their defense struggled against the run last season — again — and adding a big-body run stuffer like Jenkins would certainly help the Rams in that facet of the game.
And Kansas City has its problems on defense year after year. And, year after year, the team makes a strong push to improve itself, usually through the signing of strong free agent candidates or trades. Don’t be surprised if the Chiefs try harder than other teams to get this deal done, as it wouldn’t be out of character for them to do so.
