The Falcons add Harrington as backup to Vick

Full story at abc13.com:

The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to terms with free agent quarterback Joey Harrington on a two-year contract, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting.

Financial terms of the deal were not available.

This is unfortunate for the Miami Dolphins, though not unexpected, as they now have even more limited options at the quarterback position.

But in Atlanta, all things are good. The team now has a veteran, pocket passer to be Michael Vick’s backup, meaning the team no longer must entrust complete faith in his erratic passing. It also means Harrington is being given another chance to prove himself. While he shouldn’t be expected to start the season, if Vick goes down with injury — not at all far-fetched with his running habits — the job is Harrington’s to lose. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
