Titans cornerback Pacman Jones promises to change his ways, and hopes some other things will change as well.

“I didn’t say there is going to be a new Pacman, but there is going to be a new surrounding, and a new opinion of Pacman,” Jones said in the second installment of his interview with Deion Sanders of the NFL Network.

Pacman Jones has quickly become one of the most controversial and disappointing players in the league today. While he is a good player on the field, his off-field exploits have made him a liability to his team because his actions create bad news and publicity that NFL team work hard to avoid.

It’s a bit difficult to sense any sort of sincerity in his latest comments; after all, he must conform quickly. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will not tolerate Jones’s actions; Goodell’s latest move — naming a 6 player advisory council — will definitely create harsher fines and punishment for player conduct.

So it seems to me that Pacman is making these comments out of necessity, not sincerity. This is not to say that my opinion of him will never be swayed, but his actions have caused me — and many others — to lose respect for the once highly touted draft selection.
